Kristine Turner has a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. She owns and operates the New Beginnings Parenting After Divorce programs, she served on the Douglas County Board of Education for seven years, and she is the Director for the Youth Leadership Douglas County (YLDC) program – a parallel to the adult Leadership Douglas County program. YLDC was started by the 2005-2006 Leadership DC class as their class project. This experiential-based program gives students the opportunity to learn a tremendous amount both in the classroom and in a hands-on format. Students have met with their local legislators at the State Capitol to see their representatives in action, visited newspaper, radio, and television stations, participated in the Alive at 25 driving simulation and been privy to the law enforcement shooting range and K9 exercises. Students have visited historic sights throughout the county to better understand its history and have tested their leadership and team building skills on a high ropes course.
